A family in North Brunswick is seeking a full-time nanny for their almost 4-year-old son. The nanny will be paid for 40 hours but only work approximately 27 hours per week. The schedule is split between mornings and afternoons from Monday to Friday. Morning shift is from 6:45 am until 8:30 am, and the afternoon shift is from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm. However, Nanny must be available all day in case of an unexpected need, emergency, school holiday, or sick day as parents work in the city and are unable to do midday pick ups.

Duties include:

(This child was a micro preemie and is globally delayed with hydrocephalus and a programmable VP shunt in his head. Mom will provide guidance on general do's/don'ts around the shunt). Duties include helping to monitor the child’s general condition to stay alert for shunt malfunction. Protecting his head from any hard falls. Keeping magnets away from his head. Providing a safe play environment. Tidying up after the child.  Doing his laundry. Preparing basic snacks and meals. Assisting with potty training. This family has a dog (puggle), but no pet care is required.

Ideal nanny:

This family’s ideal nanny is nurturing, patient, organized, experienced, a non-smoker, and very “go with the flow”. They can create the child’s daily schedule and help him reach developmental milestones. Nanny must  be a very mobile and active person as the house has a lot of stairs and the child likes to move! Current flu vaccinations are required. A background in special needs is a huge plus, but not required.

He is on the autism spectrum and uses an AAC (Augmented and Alternative Communication) device. He communicates mostly with sign language or an Ipad but also works with a speech therapist. He is very energetic, curious, and loves to have music playing all the time. He likes arts and crafts, jumping on the trampoline, playing independently, eating, and activities that involve organizing and dumping.

These first-time parents love going on family outings. Mom is friendly, Type A , scheduled, and tries to be understanding. She works from home once a week. Dad is quiet, rigid, funny, reserved, and also Type A. He is a smoker but only smokes outside the home. They limit screen time for their son and are introducing gentle discipline and boundaries. Both parents are vaccinated for Covid-19.
