A single mother in Montclair, NJ, is seeking a live-out nanny for her nearly two-year-old child. The position involves a Monday through Friday schedule with the following hours:
- Monday: 1:30 PM – 8:30 PM
- Tuesday: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Wednesday: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Thursday: 10:30 AM – 7:00 PM
- Friday: 1:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Duties include:
Attending swim lessons and engaging in child-related activities. Organizing and managing the child's belongings. Minimizing screen time unless weather conditions warrant outdoor activities. Creating engaging and developmentally appropriate activities. Taking outdoor walks and encouraging physical activity and light tidying up after the child.
Ideal Candidate:
The preferred candidate is kind, caring, gentle, and fun-loving. They should possess experience working with toddlers and be able to handle various personalities with grace. Key qualities include patience, proactive approach, warmth, nurturing nature, and a background in child development or education is a plus. A mature, responsible individual with a good driving record, a valid driver’s license, and comfort with potty training is essential.
About the child:
The child is a highly energetic 2 year-old who attends preschool two days a week for a few hours. He is very musical, enjoys activities involving banging and exploring, and has a fascination with planes, boats, and marine life. He is sociable, talkative, intelligent, and eager to learn. He can be a picky eater and is confident and bold. While in the toddler stage, he experiences typical behaviors such as tantrums and power struggles and is beginning to show signs of separation anxiety but remains quite adaptable. Known affectionately as the “Mayor,” he makes friends easily and is generally resilient. He tends to be passive and is quite resilient when facing peer interactions.
Discipline Philosophy includes maintaining a calm and present demeanor. Allow some behaviors to pass, then gently explain why they are unacceptable and redirect the conversation. Provide explanations in a clear and calm manner. Plus setting consistent boundaries with respect and without authoritarian methods or corporal punishment.
