More details:

A family in Springfield is seeking a warm, experienced, part-time / long-term nanny to join their family and care for their 3 children, ages 10 months, 5 years, and 10 years old. The schedule is 2–3 full days per week (approximately 20-25 hours).

The full week's hours (50-55 hours) will be split with another nanny. The family is flexible on how to split and arrange these hours, but once arranged, the schedule should be consistent going forward. Ideally, the family would appreciate some flexibility on Nanny’s part–with advance notice and discussion– for occasional longer hours and/or coverage when the other nanny is off.

Duties include:

Preparing vegetarian (not vegan) meals, with the opportunity to collaborate on meal planning. Doing laundry.  Tidying up after the children and organizing their belongings.  Assisting with occasional errands such as picking up groceries, dropping off dry cleaning, and putting gas in the family minivan used for transporting children. Additional tasks could include dishwashing. Letting the dog outside into the fenced yard and back in (pet care is not a requirement but would be appreciated).

Ideal nanny:

This family is looking for a professional nanny who embodies warmth, kindness, and a strong sense of safety. The ideal candidate will be engaging, present, calm, and patient. They should have prior experience with infants and multiple children and be capable of providing individualized attention to each child. Safety consciousness is essential. The candidate should be able to establish structure within a lively household, be warm and outgoing, and enjoy playing and being playful with children. Comfort in building relationships within the school and community environment is desired. Looking for someone who is interested in establishing a long-term relationship and feeling like part of the family. Animal lovers are preferred, as the family currently has a dog and plans to add cats in the future.

The family values open communication, engagement, and a genuine interest in fostering a positive, lasting relationship with the family. A college degree or higher is a plus.

About the children

The 10-year-old is intellectually gifted, funny, active, hard on himself, inquisitive, and disorganized. He likes sports and learning a lot about specific topics such as Dungeons and Dragons, mycology (the science of mushrooms), Star Wars, and American history. He loves classic rock and music generally. He adores animals and is passionate about protecting them. Extracurriculars include: flute/piano, sports, and local baseball. He enjoys school and is academically advanced, but he struggles with confidence and executive function at times. He needs a lot of reminders to stay focused while doing homework and when getting ready. He generally gets along with everyone in the family. He is amazing with his sister but sometimes fights with his brother; when this happens, they need their own space and separation.

The 5-year-old is energetic, imaginative, affectionate, spirited, and loving. He likes dinosaurs, playing the piano, learning about the human body, and Battlebots. He loves art and hands-on projects. He is in love with his baby sister--if anything, he needs reminders not to pick her up or play too rough, but he's very sweet with her. He likes science but is not a big fan of reading. He  does well when he's kept engaged, but sometimes struggles to stay seated/engaged during meal times or when disagreeing with his brother. He usually does well with positive, humor-based redirection and checklists. After-school activities include piano, sports, art, and taekwondo.

The 10-month-old is curious, happy, cuddly, active, and observant. She loves to eat her favorite foods and hang out with her favorite people. She may have baby/toddler classes at the library or a music class here and there. She takes swim classes (huge plus if Caregivers is willing to swim with her but not required).

About the parents and household:

Both parents have a good sense of humor and try not to take themselves too seriously. Mom is organized with  schedules and routines and values staying connected throughout the day. She appreciates hearing about both positive and challenging moments. Dad is warm, engaging in conversation, and deeply involved in the children’s lives. Both prioritize kindness, understanding, and clear communication.

They are warm, energetic, and loving individuals who maintain a structured yet realistic approach to parenting. Their focus is on fostering connection, fostering laughter, and sharing enjoyable meals, rather than striving for perfection and tidiness. The household is vegetarian and has a strong affection for animals.

Disciplinary approaches emphasize calm, consistent boundaries, utilizing positive reinforcement, redirection, and age-appropriate consequences. The emphasis is on safety, kindness, and teaching emotional regulation rather than punitive measures. They believe that establishing clear, well-explained boundaries and providing steady leadership are essential for supporting a positive environment.
